Camera Movement Workshop

To get to grips with the filming process ready to film my trailer, I had a few hours spent practising different camera movements using the tripod and dolly equipment. What I learnt from this experience was that when using a dolly, although extremely good for tracking and quick arch shots, it is only effective on a flat surface other wise the wheels of the dolly will jolt and get stuck in the uneven surface of the floor, making the footage blurry and not smooth. I also learnt that framing can get lost when doing quick camera movement, so to enable I didn't do this in my actual trailer filming, I took care when ensuring the actors and the camera movement where moving at the same time. Another case of actors and cameras not being in sync was in the tracking shots shown. The actors are shown to walk at a much faster pace than the camera is moving, consequently framing is an issue again as their heads are out of the frame for a majority of the shot. From doing this I have gained a lot of useful knowledge as well as being able to learn from mistakes that I have made and be able to avoid this when filming my real trailer.
